We recommend quarterly Progent cleanings in order to loosen and remove stubborn protein deposits on your molds. This type of build-up is not always visible to the naked eye but could cause irritation, discomfort, and in some cases infection. You will want to clean your molds with this solution every 3 months to ensure prevention of this type of complication and you can always purchase it in our office. There are instructions from the manufacturer that comes inside each package of Progent solution, but we hope the following steps help to simplify the process:
Step 1: Always wash and dry your hands before handling your corneal molds
Step 2: Place your molds in the appropriate Left (L) and Right (R) holder in the cap of the Progent Vial before mixing solutions. Note: The Progent solutions can stain clothes- be careful!
Step 3: Open Progent A and gently squeeze all of the liquid into the Progent Vial
Step 4: Open Progent B and gently squeeze all the liquid into the Progent Vial with Progent A
Step 5: Tightly close the cap of the Progent Vial and shake gently for about 30 seconds to combine the liquids
Step 6: Allow the molds to soak in Progent mixture for 30 minutes. DO NOT soak for more than 30 minutes as this can start to strip and damage the lenses.
*TIP- keep a timer on your phone or other device to avoid this
Step 7: Remove the Progent Vial cap and keep molds in the holders. Discard Progent mixture in the sink.
Step 8: Open Progent Rinsing Solution and gently squeeze all of the liquid into the Progent Vial
Step 9: Close the cap on the Progent Vial and shake gently for about 30 seconds
Step 10: Open the Vial and remove your molds from the holders. You may return your molds to their usual cleaning system. You may also discard of all Progent materials- each Progent package comes with them for next time. And you’re done!
